THE LOCKER ROOM : P.E NATION UNI-FORM

UNI-form: Meeting the Moment Inside the Locker Room

Huddle up, team ! As we stand here in the locker room shoulder to shoulder, unified and inclusive, we’re here to play hard, we’re here to play fair but most of all we’re here to play together. Because in our team, it’s not the strength of the individual players that wins out in the end, but the strength amassed when we work in UNI-form. Here, in this place where spirits are rallied and friendships are forged, the locker room represents the foundation of where we start and end with our team. Win the locker room, and we win the game. On three, UNI-FORM.

The locker room serves as the backdrop to P.E Nation’s second UNI-form collection, due for release on December 1, 2020. Beyond the grandstand as featured within the Nation’s first co-ed collection, the locker room is where we as a team shape our bonds of connection, motivation, contemplation, reflection and most importantly, inclusivity. True to form, the locker room is a trusted space that supports the wins and accepts the losses. It’s a place that sets the tone for growth, it heralds the need for constant refinement, and it’s the foundation space for absolute betterment. It’s where we regroup, recalibrate, and rewrite the strategies for the long game ahead. And it’s here where we can revise our winning moments, support our team members and revere our heroes.

Much like our inaugural campaign, this collection speaks a universal language, pushes gender boundaries, removes competition and replaces ego with community. We’re not rewriting the DNA of the UNI-form category with this collection, rather this edit places the P.E team network at its heart. Instead of competing with one another, UNI-form is a show of unity, an opportunity to stand on equal footing with the person next to you. It sees the power in our collective similarities, celebrates the common thread we all share irrespective of age or industry, and revels in our individual style. When combined with others who share the same force, this team is unstoppable.

It starts and ends with our team. For UNI-form 2.0, P.E Nation took the casting call to the community because as we see it, it’s not about P.E Nation and you: as part of the one team we are you, you are us, and UNI-form represents our collective. This UNI-form collection shoot unites an incredible mix of eight people from our wider community that advocate a show of unanimity; selected because they represent all of us, they unite all of us and they meet the moment of equality, community and inclusivity that the global team aspires to.

As promised, we are continuing our journey to produce eco-friendly conscious activewear and fashion, valuing sustainability and protection of the planet. UNI-form falls within Our Conscious Nation, which seeks to raise awareness and offer transparency around our commitment to holistically implementing meaningful and sustainable business practices, in order to reduce our impact on the environment. Comprising of a mix of organic cotton, recycled polyester and hemp, this 30-piece collection features oversized hoodies, sweats, tanks, tees, shorts and trackpants; culminating in a P.E. Nation team victory.

We caught up with some of the incredible talent from our UNI-form shoot, casted from our very own audience, to talk global goals, and what it was that inspired them to be part of this team campaign.

The P.E Nation UNI-form campaign is a celebration of self acceptance and worth. Being a part of this team is the chance for the unification of all races, shapes, sex; identity. The perfect campaign to express our unique qualities and passion for movement, embracing organic creativity and the duality of gender. I would love the chance to work with the P.E Nation team in such an important and empowering industry as being a part of this process I can truly align with myself and inspire others to do the same.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

P.E Nation is a brand that aligns the active and busy lifestyle and celebrates the duality of fashion and practicality. I’ve always been drawn to P.E Nation, the multifaceted activewear has always matched my persona and active nature. The opportunity to unify with others that also identify the brand within themselves is what ultimately drew me to the campaign.

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My locker room would include a bunch of my closest mates and family, those who know me best. As to where, the beauty of having these people in my locker room is that it doesn’t matter where we are, when we are all together, an encouraging, fun and supportive environment is guaranteed.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

Ultimately, my goals are to be fulfilled and accomplished within myself. Having always been a naturally driven person I’ve found I’m at my happiest and most supportive when I am feeling fulfilled and proud of myself. Pushing myself to exceed my comfort zone and work hard for what I want is where having a supportive team is essential. Life is a game, you need your team to support and assist in winning your dreams.

SUZAN MUTESI

ACTRESS & AUTHOR

There is a African proverb that says if you want to go fast go alone but if you want to go far go together. This has been the base foundation of my desire and love to be on a team that champions you, believes in you and loves to see you succeed. Being on a team means you carry the load together, you celebrate and cry together. Being on a team means unity, diversity and togetherness.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

I love modelling and to be in any P.E Nation campaign - to me that was a dream. I used to watch models being picked to be part of campaigns and runways but I know my definition of beauty was not what they were looking for. I was the girl who constantly knocked on agencies looking to be signed or given an opportunity to be a part of a team or believed in but every door got slammed in my face. I was told by agents I was not beautiful enough, skinny enough, tall enough, black enough. To be honest I believed them and it affected my confidence and approach to things in life until I had to unlearn the negative beliefs and too a journey of self search and love. I know what it feels like to not be accepted, to be an outcast. I have been bullied for being different and discriminated against. I know what it feels like to not be wanted, these. reasons drew me to apply and be part of the P.E Nation campaign. A campaign of inclusivity, diversity and unity, it’s what the world needs to see now. A united force and oneness.

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My locker room is my life and heart. I prayer over my heart as out of it flows the river of life. I take a gentle care of my heart, making sure it’s in good condition. It’s loving and tender towards others. I always make sure my heart is healed, not troubled, humble and not offensive so it judges others well with fairness. We attract what we go for so I make sure I surround myself with people who bring encouragement, build me up, correct me and rebuke me in love.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

To walk for P.E Nation during fashion week and to feature on Home and Away or Neighbours and in a big Hollywood movie. My goal is to participate in more and future TV and modelling campaigns.

SAHYA SAHEKI

DANCER & DANCE TEACHER

As a dancer, kids dance studio owner – I proudly wear P.E Nation activewear and absolutely love it. It also would mean the world just to be one of the faces of such a wonderful brand but I also believe more Asian people should be used as models. Being part of a team to me is about all coming together, supporting each other and lifting each other up!

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

Firstly being an 'open casting call' meant that anyone was able to apply, it doesn't matter who and what experiences you have, P.E Nation were opening this opportunity to the community. This really attracted me to apply and to be a part of the team.

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My family, but mostly importantly my sister. Wherever we are and in whatever circumstances we are in, we are always there for each other.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

I own a kids dance studio called "Studio 17 Performing Arts". I have the best team working for me and this is because of the support we give to each other. The love we share for each other and the open communication we have for one another to emphasise trust and unity. When you have all this in a team, you can accomplish anything!

Teamwork and supporting differences is the only way to build an effective team. Grow and learn together. It’s easy to just be you but when you have to be you and envelop develop thoughts on other ways to do things, you grow and expand.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

What drew me in to be a part of this campaign was firstly being a fan of P.E Nation. Super comfy and trendy clothing - Who could say no to being part of something so big?

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

I’ve competed in Amateur Boxing and I would always have my coach in my locker room to give me those last words of advice and to get me ready before we walk out.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

My goals they require a team to accomplish are to be the partner to my beautiful girlfriend Sara and best dad to my kids - Braddy, India and Arlo. They are my team! They always have my back and I will always have theirs.

Show up. Stay put. Speak. Listen. Respond. Change. Move forward by learning from the past. Together.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

I’ve been a P.E Nation wearer since their first release in 2016. I bought a sweater, a mesh t-shirt (that I tied in a knot on the side), and leggings. Needless to say, I rocked a barre class quite unlike anyone else at that time.

One of my fondest P.E Nation memories is receiving their red tracksuit from a few years ago, popping it on immediately (because red and tracksuit) and sauntering with my spoodles around the streets like I had just arrived. In my head, I was the literal definition of fly.

There has not been a purchase (many of them!) from P.E Nation that I don’t feel comfortable in. Maybe this is what drew me to the LOCKER ROOM campaign. Comfortable clothes that make you feel strong and stylish is a stellar combination. And let’s be real, who wouldn’t jump at the chance to be in a P.E shoot!

I also joined the campaign to show people you can show up and be fierce whatever age you are. Age is no barrier to doing things that inspire and excite. It might be scary but keep going!

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My LOCKER ROOM is in my head. It is a repository of all the people, animals, places, experiences, books, films and music that have shaped me into the Melinda I am. They are all stored in lockers for when I need them; when I do they come out. We talk and ponder and assess and plan until I’m ready to keep on moving forward in this gig called life.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

I’m a Dr of Design Studies. I can’t help you in an emergency on a plane but can talk to you about cool stuff like the relationships between design, consumerism, desire and Apple Inc. Two things I’m passionate about is teaching students about the ways in which design shapes people, places and things into particular ways of being, and how design can shape our futures for the better. I’m currently working as an Associate Lecturer in Design where I get to do this daily. It is an honour. My goal is to keep on researching, writing about and educating people on the value design has in shaping worlds. For that I need a team of like-minded, but critical people, including all of my super intelligent students. Some are already in my LOCKER ROOM, others will come in.

Being a part of a team means working together to uniting as one to work towards a common goal whilst being collaborative, supportive and respectful.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

I was drawn to this campaign because of P.E Nation’s diverse and loyal community. The brand has always felt inviting since I arrived in Australia. I’m a huge fan of everything P.E Nation stands for, so it felt right to be a part of this amazing UNI-form campaign.

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My locker for some reason seems to be my kitchen. It’s where all my ideas are created and seems to be the place where everyone hangs out when friends over. My friends are always in my corner and always in my locker room making jokes at the right moments.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

My life goal is to accomplish a physical and mental challenge to raise money for a lost friend charity by running multiple marathons on Bondi beach. I’m just at the planning stage right now but I’ll need the support from my team and community to hopefully take on this challenge.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT P.E NATION THAT DREW YOU IN TO BE PART OF THIS TEAM CAMPAIGN?

P.E Nation drew me in because it was amazing to see how successful a Sydney grown business could become world wide. It felt more personal wearing the brand and you could feel connected with the garments because it was designed in the city you live in.

EVERYONE NEEDS A LOCKER ROOM TO HAVE THOSE LOCKER ROOM MOMENTS – WHERE AND WHO IS IN YOUR LOCKER ROOM?

My locker room would have to be on the club floor with my brothers Lukas, Ryan and Brynn where life’s easy, you listen to good music and you really enjoy and laugh at the little things. Plus my family who support me in my dreams and endeavours.

WHAT ARE YOUR OWN GOALS THAT WILL REQUIRE A TEAM TO ACCOMPLISH?

My goal is to produce house music that the world will hear and that I’ll be able to play on an international scale under my DJ Name; Billy Zane. Another goal is for my events “Chaos” to become renowned worldwide for the most wild and fun parties you could take part of. The first one was insane, so I’m keen to see how the next one goes. I know I’m going to need a committed and loving team with me all the way if I’m going to see these goals take life.
