Flood Relief with Thread Together
P.E Nation is a proud partner of Thread Together, who have to date helped more than 300,000 people in the community, and delivered 1.2 million items of clothing. Thread Together’s mission is to restore dignity and hope for men, women and children going through difficult times, helping them have access to a complete new wardrobe of clothes.
The recent flood crisis along the east coast of Australia this week saw 18,000 New South Wales residents evacuated, with many worst-hit regional towns still working to recover from unprecedented bushfires just 14 months ago. Despite blue skies across the state in recent days, the flood threat is ongoing, with hundreds of rescues and many in the community losing their homes.
To help victims of the floods in NSW, Thread Together has been working on a number of response efforts, and will continue these efforts as much as the community needs. They are working with groups including the Salvation Army, Samaritans, Central Coast Disaster Relief and the St Vincent de Paul, and helping City of Sydney support the homeless community, transferring those in need to temporary accommodation. “We have connected with the Salvation Army in Port Macquarie and we sent the first shipment of clothing requested – 1200 units of underwear, socks and bras,” says Alyce Krowitz from Thread Together. “We have also connected with Anglicare North Coast, who have placed an order of 3675 units, and we have begun arranging a number of large orders placed by two evacuation centres on the Mid North Coast of NSW.”
To add to their distribution facilities in high-need areas including Eden, Tumut and Moruya, Thread Together is also currently working to establish similar “Clothing Hubs” to areas most in need. “We are working with our network of fashion partners to close potential product gaps, particularly in children’s clothing, and large volunteer groups have been mobilised this week and next week to support response efforts further.”
