Newcastle model, digital storyteller, and devoted traveller Gigi Hubber is constantly on the move. Join us as Gigi shares her top style tips for long-haul trips, reveals New York’s best hidden breakfast destination, and uncovers Bali’s ultimate spot for snorkelling with manta rays. No matter where you're planning on going, you'll discover insights and inspiration for every next destination - from city escapes to rainforest retreats.
Â
What’s your favourite place in the world, and why?
New York City has my heart – the moment you arrive, the energy there makes you feel like you’re part of something much bigger. If you’re planning your own NYC adventure, make sure SoHo is on your list – it's a paradise for anyone into trendy cafes and independent brands. One spot you can’t miss is Citizens of SoHo – their avocado toast is a game-changer. Â
Â
Where’s next on your travel list?
I’m very grateful to be spending a week in Bali soon with three of my best friends, followed by a week rejuvenating with my family, and a few photoshoots booked in between. If you’re a foodie and shopaholic like me, go to Canggu. Book a table at Shelter – their dishes are so good they should be illegal. Escape from it all at Komune Resort – it’s a total zen sanctuary. And for a daytrip straight out of a postcard, head to Nusa Lembongan for some epic snorkelling. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a swim with majestic manta rays – it's a moment you’ll never forget.Â
TRAVEL TIPS
What are your 5 must-have travel essentials?Â
My 5 essentials are :Â
-
My YouTube/digital camera to capture my travels. I have recently started a YouTube channel, capturing days I spend on set, travelling to new destinations and my daily routines. I love the process of creating content and digital storytelling.Â
-
A sporty cap is a must-have for days exploring a new city.Â
-
My skincare – absolutely essential to my daily routine, no matter where I am.Â
-
A trackie set for the plane - I'm loving the West Fourth Sweat and Trackpant from the latest P.E Nation collection.Â
-
A good book. My favourite books are self help books. My two all-time favourites I would recommend to anyone are Rich Dad, Poor Dad and a book on Ikigai - the Japanese concept of finding and living your purpose. I love reading a mix between the traditional and alternative more holistic concepts of self development.  Â
Â
How do you plan your outfits when you’re preparing for a trip?
Before each trip, I look up the country and the weather and then I make Pinterest boards! My main focus is to have items that are versatile so I can mix and match effortlessly. Honestly, packing for trips is not my strong point - I always bring way too many clothes, and I’m always paying for access luggage! So the planning with Pinterest boards helps me keep things succinct and organised, for sure. If there is one thing I have learnt along the way, it's roll your clothes, you can fit far more in your suitcases, and the clothes stay wrinkle free!Â
Â
What’s your go-to outfit for a day of exploring a new city? Â
I absolutely love a good sporty spice look, especially in cities where you are walking around and exploring. So, a white basic singlet or tee, tights, a baseball cap, with some cute sneakers is my go to.  Comfort is key.Â
Â
What’s one fashion item you can’t live without? Â
I feel like a good hand bag will make or break any outfit, I believe it is the most essential part of any outfit.  I’m a big believer in always buying quality over quantity. Â
What’s the most memorable trip you’ve ever taken?
The most unforgettable journey of my life has to be the time my extended family and I traveled to Savai’i, Samoa. It was more than just a trip—it was an eye-opening experience. I met some of the most incredible souls there; despite their humble lifestyles, they radiated happiness like I'd never seen before. I was quite young, but it left an indelible mark on me, opening my eyes to what true contentment looks like. Â
One of the highlights was connecting with extended family on the island, seeing Savai’i through their eyes. It was all about immersing ourselves in the local community and culture. I vividly remember playing outside my uncle's church with local girls, who were so curious about life beyond the island. Â
For anyone visiting Savai’i, I'd highly recommend diving into the local culture—maybe visit a village, connect with the warm-hearted locals, and embrace their way of life. It was a reminder that we create our own happiness and that a life full of love and laughter is a choice.
Â
What’s one thing people might not know  about you? Â
I used to be an AFL freak and used to train and play twice a day, and would travel from Newcastle to Sydney to train, being a part of the Sydney Swans academy!Â
Â
What’s next for you? Any exciting projects or goals coming up?
So, I'm super thrilled about my upcoming modelling gigs. I've got my sights set on expanding my portfolio with some fun campaigns and runway shows. One of my biggest dreams is to move to Los Angeles! Earlier this year, I visited LA and fell in love with the city's fashion and entertainment life.  I hope to one day immerse myself in the glamorous West Coast vibe. Big dreams, sunny skies, and endless opportunities!
